Acting Secretary General demands release of the detained Jamaat leaders and activists ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr
Sunday, 03rd July, 2016
Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 3rd July, 2016 urging the government to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir including top leaders ahead of the ensuing holy occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

“The government has kept the top leaders of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami including its Nayeb-e-Ameer and world renowned religious scholar Maulana Delwar Hossain Sayedee, Nayeb-e-Ameer Maulana Abdus Sobhan, Assistant Secretary General ATM Azharul Islam and central executive committee member Mir Quasem Ali behind the bar for 6 long years in connection with the false allegation of so called crimes against humanity. Besides, the authority has imprisoned many innocent leaders and workers and caused intolerable sufferings to them. Even in this holy month of Ramadan, hundreds of Chhatrashibir and Jamaat activists have been arrested unlawfully. The families and relatives of all the detainees are passing days amidst severe tension and worries.

I am calling upon the government to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir including top leaders ahead of the ensuing holy occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr on humanitarian ground so that they can celebrate this religious festival along with their families.
