Hamidur Rahman Azad slams the government for arresting innocent Jamaat activists in holy month of Ramadan
Saturday, 11th June, 2016

Central Executive Committee member of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Hamidur Rahman Azad has issued the following statement on 11th June, 2016 protesting and condemning the unjust arrest of Jamaat leaders and activists from different places of the country including Manikganj, Comilla, Noakhali, Chandpur, Feni, Dinajpur and Nilphamari districts on 10th June night.

“The government is arresting the leaders and activists from different places of the country unlawfully as a part of their plot to make this party leaderless. The detainess are completely innocent.

Police has unlawfully arrested Manikganj district’s Horirampur Upazila Jamaat Ameer Dr. Kazi Abdul Alim, Shibaloy Upazila Ameer Maulana Omar Faruq, Comilla district’s Homna Upazila Jamaat secretary Md. Jakaria and 3 other activists, 12 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from Noakhali districts including Sonaimuri municipality Jamaat secretary Naimuddin, 9 activists from Chandpur district, 3 Jamaat men from Feni district. 4 Jamaat workers from Thakurgaon district, one from Dinajpur and 8 from Nilphamari districts on last 10th June night.

The government is conducting an arrest drive to detain the Jamaat leaders and activists in this holy month of Ramadan just to confirm its one party rule. These arrest drives exposed the fascist face of the government. I am urging the countrymen to take stand against the fascist activities of the government.

I am calling upon the concerned authorities to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including Manikganj district’s Horirampur Upazila Jamaat Ameer Dr. Kazi Abdul Alim and Shibaloy Upazila Ameer Maulana Omar Faruq immediately.”
