Father and son arrested from Chittagong house for alleged plot against the government; Acting Secretary General terms it as a mockery with the citizen
Wednesday, 01st June, 2016
Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 1st June, 2016 severely protesting the unjust arrest of Chittagong city Jamaat member Abdus Sobur and his son Tasnim Ahmed Tahsin, residents of 6 number Hasmot road in Bashundhara residential area of the port city’s Halishahar area and similar arrest of Chittagong city Jamaat’s office assistant Syedul Alam on last 31st May.

“Police has unlawfully arrested Chittagong city Jamaat member Abdus Sobur and his son Tasnim Ahmed Tahsin, residents of 6 number Hasmot road in Bashundhara residential area of the port city’s Halishahar area and similar arrest of Chittagong city Jamaat’s office assistant Syedul Alam. They are completely innocent. The authority has arrested them just to harass them only.

Mr. Abdus Sobur and his son lived in a house together. No question is raised at all to for them to hold any secret meet or to plan for toppling the government. The plot of secret meeting for ousting government is a police concocted story. It is mockery of the police forces with the life of a citizen. It is an insult for the citizen and really shameful for the society. No one has the right to play heinous game with the human life. Now it becomes unsafe even for a father and a son live in a house.

If any Islamic book is recovered from a house, it is branded as Jihadist book. What does it mean? Can a man not keep Islamic books in his house to secure knowledge? Terming the Islamic books as Jihadist books, the authority has deprived the people from the rights of acquiring Islamic knowledge as well.

I am calling upon the concerned authorities to stop harassment and torture and to release Mr. Abdus Sobur, his son Tasnim Ahmed Tahsin and  Chittagong city Jamaat’s office assistant Syedul Alam immediately.”
