Dr. Taher voices for judicial probe into the murder of Nikhil Joardar; demands release of the innocent Jamaat activists
Sunday, 01st May, 2016

Central Executive Committee member of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former member of the Parliament Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher has issued the following statement on 1st May, 2016 protesting and condemning the unjust arrest of Tangail district’s Gopalpur Upazila unit Jamaat Secretary Dr. Rafiqul Islam Badsha and Jamaat activist Aminul Islam on last 30th April.

“Police has unreasonably arrested Tangail district’s Gopalpur Upazila unit Jamaat Secretary Dr. Rafiqul Islam Badsha and Jamaat activist Aminul Islam. They are completely innocent. The law enforcers have arrested them just to harass them politically. They have no nexus with the recent murder incident of Gopalpur Upazila’s tailor Nikhil Chandra Joardar. Jamaat sincerely hates such a kind of murder.

Instead of arresting the real criminals, the incumbent government is repeatedly arresting the innocent leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami intentionally. Thus, the real offenders are being spared and they are not facing any sorts of trial.

Instead of trying the real miscreants, if the political repression and crackdown continues like the present trend, then it would ease the way for the criminals to recur the same offence. This is happening in Bangladesh right now.

We are calling upon the authorities concerned to conduct a judicial investigation into the brutal murder of Nikhil Chandra Joardar and to take due legal measures against his killers. I am also extending my deep sympathy to the family of slain tailor Nikhil Chandra Joardar.

Besides, I am urging the authorities to stop harassment and to release Tangail district’s Gopalpur Upazila unit Jamaat Secretary Dr. Rafiqul Islam Badsha and Jamaat activist Aminul Islam immediately.”
