Saturday, 30th April, 2016
Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 30th April, 2016 declaring nationwide peaceful demonstration program on 2nd May, 2016 Monday demanding immediate unconditional release of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer and former minister Maulana Matiur Rahman Nizami.

“The government has intentionally and unlawfully kept Jamaat Ameer Maulana Matiur Rahman Nizami behind the bar to achieve their ill political interest.

Maulana Matiur Rahman Nizami is a renowned politician, veteran religious scholar and former minister. He has been elected members of the Parliament from Pana (Santhia-Bera constituency) for two times in 1991 and 2001 general election and played significant role for the welfare of the nation. He has played pivotal role for the development of his own constituency and the voters of that region remembered him respectfully till now. Many freedom fighters also worked relentlessly during those elections for securing his victory. In those periods, no one raised question about his role in 1971. Since 1971, case is far away even no GD had been filed ever against him. Being failed to tackle him politically, the government has filed false case against him. Producing own party men as incredible witness, now they are conspiring to kill him.

Since 29th June of 2010, the government has been harassing him through imprisonment. Many local and foreign quarters have urged the government to release him. But paying no heed to those calls, the government is imprisoning him at this old age. He is a man of decent and moral character with great patriotism. His lifetime desire and dream is to ensure the betterment of the general masses. The nation is crossing a crucial period now and under the current critical juncture, a rational and reasonable leader like him is genuinely required. So I am demanding his immediate unconditional release without making any further delay.

I am declaring nationwide peaceful demonstration program on 2nd May, 2016 Monday in line with the demand of immediate unconditional release of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer and former minister Maulana Matiur Rahman Nizami.

I am urging all the wing and front organizations of Jamaat-e-Islami and seeking the assistance of the countrymen to make the declared peaceful demonstration program successful.”
