Dr. Taher criticizes retired Justice Manik for his baseless comment about Mir Quasem Ali’s verdict; demands retrial of the case
Wednesday, 20th April, 2016

Central Executive Committee member of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former member of the Parliament Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher has issued the following statement on 20th April, 2016 protesting the unjust, false and unethical comment of retired Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik which he had delivered in a program in Dhaka saying that ‘a financial transaction took place to change the verdict of Jamaat leader Mir Quasem Ali in a case of war crimes.’

“Retired Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik in the aforesaid program stated that ‘a financial transaction took place to change the verdict of Jamaat leader Mir Quasem Ali in a case of war crimes. Due to the incident, the verdict has come. Otherwise, the verdict would be something different. Huge amount of money has been transacted….His entire comment is unethical, immoral and unlawful and most of all contemptuous.

He cannot make such objectionable comment about a court’s verdict. His comment proved once again that Mir Quasem Ali has been deprived from justice. The baseless and untrue statement of retired Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik has raised question about the trial and the case procedure.

I am calling upon to conduct a judicial investigation and to punish the involved personnel for this scandalous incident. Besides, I am urging the concerned authorities to hold a retrial of this case if any illegal interference is proved during the procedure of this case.”
