Acting Secretary General criticizes government for hatching conspiracy to implicate Mahmudur Rahman with Joy abduction plot
Monday, 18th April, 2016

Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 18th April, 2016 protesting and condemning the heinous conspiracy of showing detained Acting Editor of Bengali Daily ‘Amar Desh’ Mr. Mahmudur Rahman in a case which has been proceeded in line with the so called allegation of abducting the ICT advisor of the Bangladesh Premier and her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy in USA.

“Mr. Mahmudur Rahman has become the worst victim of government’s political vengeance. Mahmudur Rahman is a fearless journalist. The government has become angered with him for his honest, professional and efficient journalism. The government is harassing him and suppressing him politically by implicating him with different false and politically motivated cases in a bid to keep him imprisoned for long days. Now the government is mulling to involve him with the case of abducting the ICT advisor of the Bangladesh Premier and her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy with an ill intention to secure their wrong political interest. The conspiracy of keeping a man imprisoned for long days by lodging more and more cases is truly inhuman and this policy would be boomerang for the government.

Mr. Mahmudur Rahman became critically ill for his long term imprisonment. He is suffering from several diseases. Despite this reality, the government is continuing their conspiracy against him. I am calling upon the local and international human rights organizations, journalist communities and the countrymen to raise voice against the government’s conspiracy of keeping Mahmudur Rahman detained for years.

I am also urging the concerned authorities to stop conspiracy for imprisoning Mahmudur Rahman by implicating him with false and politically motivated cases and to release him immediately.”
