15 injured in BCL infighting in CU
Friday, 09 December 2016

At least 15 students were injured in clashes between two groups of ruling Bangladesh Awami League’s student front Bangladesh Chhatra League [BCL] on Chittagong University campus Thursday.

The condition of three of the injured is critical. The injured were undergoing treatment at the university medical centre while students with serious injuries are being sent to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

Witnesses said the two groups--one led by CU BCL unit president Alamgir Tipu and another led by its general secretary Fazle Rabbi Sujjan—locked into the clash over a trifling matter around 10:00pm Thursday.

Both the groups hurled crude bombs and chased each other, creating a wave of panic on campus.

Talking to media around 11:00pm, Hathazari police station officer-in-charge Belal Uddin Md Jahangir said, “The clash is still going on and we are trying to bring the situation under control.”
