Rangpur city Jamaat’s Secretary arrested; Secretary General demands immediate release
Thursday, 12 January 2017

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 12th January, 2017 protesting the unjust arrest of Rangpur city Jamaat’s Secretary Anwarul Islam from his residence on 12th January evening.

“The government has arrested Rangpur city Jamaat Secretary Anwarul Islam unjustifiably just to harass him politically. He is completely innocent.

The government has initiated a conspiracy to make Jamaat-e-Islami a leaderless party and as a part of it, Anwarul Islam has been arrested. The government is continuously carrying out the arrest drive against the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir nationwide. The government has imposed its tyrannical rule upon the countrymen just to boost up its one party autocracy. I am urging the countrymen to raise voice against the misrule of the government.

Finally, I am calling upon the authorities concerned to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir including Rangpur city Jamaat Secretary Anwarul Islam immediately.”
