Acting Ameer greets the countrymen on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha; demands the release of top leaders before Eid
Saturday, 10 September 2016

Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maqbul Ahmed has issued the following statement on 10th September, 2016 extending greetings to the countrymen on the occasion of holy Eid-ul-Azha and demanding immediate release of detained party leaders and activists including Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Maulana Abdus Subhan and Allama Delwar Hossain Sayedee.

“The holy Eid-ul-Azha is knocking at our door upholding its dignified spirit. Both the days of Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha are very joyful events for the Muslims. On these two holy occasions, people are coming closer defying all sorts of division, envy and vengeance and perform the Eid prayers at the Eidgah ground. These two occasions of Eid not only provide us joy and charms but also strengthen social bondages based on harmony, brotherhood and mutual intimacy. Eid actually bolsters our personal, social and national unity.

Eid-ul-Azha revives human being on the basis of sacrifice and dedication and removes all types of social, political and financial discrimination and exploitation and thus inspires us to sacrifice more in order to build discrimination free and justice based society. If we are really encouraged with the spirit of sacrifice and if we can follow the Islamic ideologies in our practical lives in order to secure justice and equity in the society then we would be able to attain the satisfaction of Almighty Allah.

The way Prophet Ibrahim (A) had set an example of optimum sacrifice, if we can make ourselves prepared to sacrifice our dearest asset and property in the same way, only then our Qurbani (Sacrifice) would be fruitful.

The countrymen are going to observe Eid-ul-Azha in such a crucial period when the entire nation is experiencing unprecedented misdeeds of terrorism, extortion, murder, abduction and massive arrest drive. The government had arrested and kept unlawfully confined top Jamaat leaders including party’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and veteran parliamentarian Maulana Abdus Subhan and Nayeb-e-Ameer and noted religious speaker Allama Delwar Hossain Sayedee and party’s Assistant Secretary General ATM Azharul Islam implicating them with some false and politically motivated cases. The peoples want their immediate release. The government is plotting conspiracy to murder to Jamaat leaders through some farcical trial procedures in order to make Jamaat a leaderless party.

In the last month of August, some plain cloth personnel claiming themselves as law enforcers had forcefully picked up former Brigadier General Abdullah Aman Al Azmi, the son of Jamaat’s Ex-Ameer late Professor Ghulam Azam and Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman, the son of Jamaat’s former Central Executive Committee member Shaheed Mir Quasem Ali from their residences and kept them abducted till now. I am urging the concerned authorities to bring them back to their families immediately.

Similarly the government has caused immense sufferings to many leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Chhatrashibir and Islami Chhatrishangstha by keeping them detained for long days. I am calling upon the countrymen to raise voice against all these ill plots and conspiracies of the government.

Finally, I am extending my cordial greetings to the countrymen on the occasion of the Eid-ul-Azha and praying to Almighty Allah so that we can observe this religious occasion in a congenial atmosphere and also can apply the basic teachings of the Eid-ul-Azha in our lives. Besides, I am insisting the government to release all the detained leaders and workers of Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Chhatrashibir and Islami Chhatrishangstha before the ensuing Eid-ul-Azha.”
