Maulana Nizami transferred to Dhaka Central jail
Monday, 09 May 2016
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and former minister Maulana Matiur Rahman Nizami has been transferred to Dhaka Central Jail from Kashimpur Jail of Gazipur on Sunday midnight.   Dhaka Central Jail Super Jahangir Kabir confirmed the news.   He said, \"He was taken to Dhaka Central Jail from Kashimpur Jail through special security on Sunday midnight. He was kept in a special cell as his verdict has already handed down.\" In a query he said he will be executed when everybody will come to know.   Members of law enforcement agencies along with Nizami started for the capital from Kashimpur Central Jail part-2 around 10:30pm, said jailer of the Dhaka Central Jail Nesar Alam. They reached the Dhaka Central Jail around 11:55pm, Nesar added.   Earlier on Thursday, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court rejected the petition of Nizami seeking review of its earlier verdict upholding the death penalty awarded by the International Crimes Tribunal.   On 15 March, the ICT issued a death warrant for Nizami for his crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971 after the apex court released the full text of its verdict upholding his death penalty.   On 6 January, a four-member bench of the Appellate Division, headed by the Chief Justice, upheld the death sentence of the Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer. On last Friday, family members met the Jamaat-e-Islami chief at Kashimpur jail after the Supreme Court last week dismissed his petition for reviewing its verdict that upheld his death penalty given by the International Crimes Tribunal-1 in 2014 for alleged war crimes.
