Acting Ameer greets the countrymen on the occasion of Bangla Nababarsha
Tuesday, 12 April 2016

Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maqbul Ahmed has issued the following statement on 12th April, 2016 extending greetings to the countrymen on the occasion of Bangla Naba Barsha (A new year according to the Bengali calendar).

“Bangla Naba Barsha is knocking at our door. Our businessmen and traders usually open the new note for keeping fresh business record on this first day of the year. The first day of the Bengali month of Boishakh has been observed as the Bengali Nababarsha since the rule of Mughal emperor Akbar. He initiated that for collecting the revenues from the people.

The year, which is going to be ended, was not blissful for the nation. The country has lost several patriotic, potential and rational leaders during this period. In the meantime, in guise of democracy, inhuman repression and crackdown has been carried out against the general masses. Central bank’s reserve fund has been looted, many women have been raped and many people have been killed mercilessly. Looting and corruption has been increased rampantly. The democracy is at the verge of collapse now. Media is subdued. People’s fundamental rights have been suppressed. The nation wants to get rid of this suffocating situation. The Nababarsha appears this time with that call of getting release from all sorts of oppression and torture.

Let us take a new oath so that the countrymen can build this nation as per their desire in order to live peacefully and comfortably. Along with the people’s peace, progress and stability, I am also expecting an oppression free Bangladesh. On behalf of my party, I would like to greet the countrymen on the eve of Bengali Nababarsha. Besides, I am urging the countrymen to come forward in building a developed and peaceful Bangladesh based on equity and justice.”
