Maulana Nizami’s review plea hearing deferred till May 3
Sunday, 10 April 2016

The Supreme Court today deferred till May 3 the hearing on the review petition filed by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Maulana Matiur Rahman Nizami.

The four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the deferment order following a time petition filed by Nizami’s lawyer Khandaker Mahbub Hossain. Now, the Supreme Court will hear the petition filed by Jamaat chief Maulana Nizami seeking review of the Appellate Division's verdict that upheld the death sentence given to him by ICT-1.

Citing his personal problems he prayed to the court to defer the date. Accepting his prayer, the court fixed May 3 for hearing as the apex court will remain closed from April 14 to 30 for summer vacation and May 1 on the occasion of May Day.

Earlier on 3 April, the Supreme Court deferred the hearing for a week on the review petition of the Jamaat Ameer, following a 70 page review petition with the Appellate Division.
