Message from Shaikh Yousuf Al-Qardawi: Seeks Prime Minister’s personal interference to halt execution of Maulana Nizami
Friday, 06 May 2016

The head of the Ittehadul Alami li Ulamail Muslimin, Shaikh Yousuf Al Qardawi in a statement urged the head of the government of Bangladesh to stop these condemnable activities for the sake of the Muslim Ummah and greater interest of Bangladesh. He also asked the Bangladesh authority to concentrate more on forming national unity instead of ongoing strategy of division and fraction.

His entire letter is as follows:

Sheikh Hasina Wazed

Honorable Prime Minister

Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah.

We are very concerned as the leaders of Islamic movement in Bangladesh and the religious scholars are facing numerous repression, crackdown and even death penalties in recent times. Some of the victims were the minister and also served the nation earlier as the member of the parliament. Now they are being oppressed judicially centering the occurrence which took place 40 years back.

Muslims from around the world have observed the mournful execution of Abdul Quader Molla, Mohammad Kamaruzzaman, Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid and Salauddin Quader Chowdhury. Besides, former Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Professor Ghulam Azam and former Nayeb-e-Ameer Shaikh Abul Kalam Mohammad Yousuf had to embrace death due to improper medical treatment while they were in custody.

On behalf of Ittehadul Alami li Ulamail Muslimin and from my personal jurisdiction, I seek your personal interference to halt all executions and to stop all sorts of bloodsheds.

Madam Sheikh Hasina,

I am urging to stop these condemnable activities for the interest of Islam, peace, Muslim Ummah and most of all for the sake of social stability in Bangladesh. Only then your efforts would help to form national unity rather than division.

Dear Prime Minister,

Almighty Allah in the holy Quran warned us about the worst consequence of bloodshed in the world and hereafter. It is said in verse 32 of the Sura Al Mayedah “whoever kills a person-unless it is for murder or corruption on earth-it is as if he killed the whole of mankind; and whoever saves it, it is as if he saved the whole of mankind.” Almighty Allah further says in verse 93 of Sura An Nisa that “Whoever kills a believer deliberately, the penalty for him is Hell, where he will remain forever. And God will be angry with him, and will curse him, and will prepare for him a terrible punishment.”

Holy Prophet’s (PbuH) companion Ibne Masud (R) stated that ‘on the day of resurrection, the offence of murder would be tried first.’ While Imam Ahmed and Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Abbas (R) narrated that ‘on the day of resurrection the murder victim would come before the Almighty Allah along with the killer and said, O Allah, ask him why he had killed me?’

Finally I along with other prominent religious scholars are calling to stop these activities. Please give up the politics of violence and repression against the religious personnel. Such activities would cause unnecessary bloodshed and seize all types of freedoms.’
