Monday, 15 February 2016

Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maqbul Ahmed has issued the following statement on 15th February, 2016 expressing deep shock and condolence over the death of Lord Avebury, the member of the House of Lords and renowned human rights campaigner.

In the message of condolence, Acting Ameer stated, “I am expressing deep condolence at the death of Lord Avebury, the member of the House of Lords and renowned human rights campaigner. He was a liberal democrat and always played tremendous role to uphold democracy. From his position, he has played outstanding role for the establishment of democracy, human rights and rule of law in Bangladesh.

He always protested the torture, oppression unconstitutional and undemocratic activities of the government against the general masses and repeatedly urged the authority to be refrained from continuing such ill practices.

Lord Avebury was a vocal against the inhuman and brutal torture of the incumbent Bangladeshi government against the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami. He also raised voice against the farce of the government in the name of trial of crimes against humanity.

Bangladesh has lost its real friend at his demise. I am extending my deep sympathy to his family and the party.”
