We have been deprived of justice: Mir Quasem’s family
Wednesday, 09 March 2016

Family members of Jamaat-e-Islami’s central executive committee member Mir Quasem Ali said he has been deprived of justice through Tuesday’s verdict delivered by Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.

In a post-verdict statement signed by Mir Quasem’s wife Khandaker Ayesha Khatun, they said the evidences and witnesses were produced in the court were not enough at all to prove him guilty.

The remarks of the Chief Justice that he made during hearing of appeal made it amply clear that there were no legal grounds to uphold his death penalty.

The statement also said that repeated threats to the Chief Justice by the ministers and changes of dates ahead of pronouncement of verdict have given birth to a question in the minds of people too, like us, that “Is judiciary really independent?”

Ayesha Khatun further said they have been deprived of justice and will appeal for review after release of the full verdict of the appeal hearing.
