Allama Sayedee files review seeking acquittal

Jamaat-e-Islami’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and veteran religious scholar Allama Delwar Hossain Sayedee has filed a review petition against the Supreme Court verdict that commuted his death penalty to jail unto death.   Allama Sayedee’s advocate-on-record Zainal Abedin Tuhin submitted the petition to the appeal section of the SC this morning. In the nine-page petition, Sayedee mentioned 16 grounds so that SC considers his prayer for acquittal, the convict’s son Masud Sayedee, told reporters. Defence lawyers on Sunday filed the petition to the Appellate Division concerned of Supreme Court that seeks acquittal from all charges.   Earlier, on January 12, the government also filed a review petition with the Supreme Court, seeking death penalty for Delwar Hossain Sayedee in connection with a controversial case of crimes against humanity.   Controversial International Crimes Tribunal-1 on February 28, 2014 year sentenced Sayedee to death.   Later on September 17, 2014, a five-member bench of the SC commuted the death sentence of Sayedee following his appeal seeking acquittal of all the charges brought against him.
