Acting Ameer expresses concern as Cricket Australia cancelled Bangladesh tour on security reasons; urges to stop propaganda about the so called upsurge of militancy
Tuesday, 29 September 2015
Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Maqbul Ahmed has issued a statement on 29th September, 2015 expressing deep concern as the Cricket Australia has cancelled the scheduled tour in Bangladesh due to security reasons in which he claimed that, Australian cricket team denied to visit Bangladesh as they became afraid of the ongoing campaign and propaganda of the incumbent government in regards to the alleged upsurge of militancy. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy and some pro-ruling party have been campaigning citing the alleged upsurge of militancy as an effort to brand Bangladesh as a militant state. Earlier, Prime Minister sought the assistance from her British counterpart David Cameron for tackling militancy and similarly her son Sajeen Wazed Joy wrote an article in Washington Times on 15th September and in that article he also sought US assistance to resist militancy in Bangladesh. Echoing them, several pro-ruling party TV channel and newspapers are also voicing about rising of militancy. Due to such propaganda, the foreigners are in fear to come in Bangladesh and this situation also tarnished the image of Bangladesh in the global arena. After the murder of an Italian citizen in the capital’s diplomatic zone on 28th September, The United States, United Kingdom and Canada have urged its citizens to stay with caution while residing in Bangladesh. Such an instruction of the 3 powerful nations also damaged the image of the country. The mass people have to pay for the reckless and stubborn attitude of the government. So the people would take stance if the ruling government does not give up its policy to carry propaganda to demonize the nation as a militant state.  The incumbent government has destroyed democracy and rule of law and imposed an authoritative rule upon the nation and carrying out propaganda of militancy to stay in power forever and subsequently destroyed the national image. I am urging the government to step down and to hold a free, fair and credible election under a caretaker government in order to save the nation.”
