Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maqbul Ahmed has issued the following statement on 27th June, 2015 urging the countrymen to extend the hands of cooperation and assistance to the victims of flood and landslide caused by continuous nationwide heavy raid.
“I am extremely worried at the immense loss and sufferings of the people nationwide due to continuous rain. At least 14 people have been killed so far due to landslide and raid in Bandarban and Cox’s Bazar. Many people and establishments have been submerged and water clogged in Chittagong, Rajshahi, Comilla, Chandpur, Jhinaidah, Barisal and Bhola due to excessive rain. Crops and properties have been severely damaged.
Due to torrential rain and flood, some 5 lac people of 300 villages in Cox’sbazar district have been waterlogged. Lands of 20 thousand acres and lobster farm have gone under water. Many houses and embankments have been destroyed. In Monpura Upazila of the Bhola district, several villages outside the embankment have been submerged already. Residents have been waterlogged in Barisal, Jhindaidah, Chandpur and Rajshahi district town. Residents of Comilla are also suffering extensively.
It is the obligation and responsibility of the government to rescue the people who have been blocked by this rain and landslide in the disaster affected area, to provide them food and medical treatment and finally to help them in the best way. I am calling upon the government to send emergency relief and assistance in the flood and landslide affected area immediately. Besides, I am urging the solvent people, concerned institution and agencies and the leaders and activists to extend the hand of assistance to the victims of flood and landslide.
Finally, I am praying to Almighty Allah seeking salvation for the departed souls who have been killed in these natural disasters and also extending my sympathy to the victim families.”
