Professor Ahsan Ullah re-arrested from the jail gate; Acting Ameer protests; demands immediate release
Tuesday, 25 August 2015
Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maqbul Ahmed has issued the following statement on 24th August, 2015 protesting and criticizing the re-arrest of Jamaat-e-Islami’s central working committee member and Chittagong city Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Professor Ahsan Ullah from the jail gate.
“Professor Ahsan Ullah has been re-arrested from the jail gate in connection with a false and politically motivated case just as a part of political harassment. This incident of re-arrest exposed the fascist approach of the government. Though he has secured bail from the high court, even though by re-arresting him the government has oppressed and tortured him inhumanly. Such activities of the government are totally inhuman and brutal.
Ignoring his arrest and by re-arresting Professor Ahsan Ullah, the government has shown its disrespect towards law and the judiciary. I am calling upon the countrymen to raise voice against the torture and suppression of the government.
Lastly, I am urging the government to stop torture and repression against the opposition men and to release Professor Ahsan Ullah immediately.”
