Sunday, 23 August 2015
Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maqbul Ahmed has issued the following statement on 23rd August, 2015 expressing deep concern at the massive damage and casualties caused by the excessive flood in several districts of the country including Rangpur, Kurigram, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Gaibandha, Feni, Netrokona, Sherpur and Bogra district due to torrential rain and overflow of water.
“I am expressing deep concern at the massive damage and casualties caused by the excessive flood in several districts of the country including Rangpur, Kurigram, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Gaibandha, Feni, Netrokona, Sherpur and Bogra district due to torrential rain and overflow of water. Thousands of people have been waterlogged due to this flood. Over hundred thousand people and their properties submerged by flood water only in Rangpur district. They should be rescued and transferred to a safer place immediately. Besides, food, drinking water, medicines and daily necessary items should be sent to these flood victims.
Many homes have been submerged. People have become compelled to shift for a better place. Crops filed and seeds have gone under water. Fishes of ponds and river have been floated away. People in the flood affected zone are suffering from hungriness. But unfortunately, the relief activities of the government are not that much visible. Now it is the duty and obligations of the people to come forward to help these flood victims.
Finally, I am calling upon the affluent people of the society, various social and financial organizations, voluntary organizations and the leaders and activists to extend their hands of cooperation to the flood affected people.”
