Acting Ameer condemns the re-arrest of Chittagong city Jamaat Ameer Maualan Shamsul Islam from the jail gate
Wednesday, 03 June 2015
Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maqbul Ahmed has issued the following statement on 3rd June, 2015 protesting and condemning the re-arrest of Chittagong city Jamaat Ameer and former member of the Parliament Maulana Shamsul Islam from the jail gate.
“Chittagong city Jamaat Ameer and former member of the Parliament Maulana Shamsul Islam has been released on 3rd June, 2015 as per the court order. But the concerned authorities have detained him once again from the jail gate and committed an inhuman and torture upon him. This incident again confirmed that democracy and rule of law does not exist in the country. The incumbent government does not bother at judicial process or rule of law. The government is carrying out suppression upon the political leaders by keeping them behind the bar for years. The government has re-arrested Maulana Shamsul Islam just to harass them politically. I am vehemently condemning these repressions and vindictive activities of the government.
The government is trying to eliminate Jamaat-e-Islami by conducting arrest drive and oppression against the leaders and activists of the party. But no ideological party can be demolished by such brutal crackdown.
In this backdrop, I am calling upon the government to stop all repression, torture and mass arrest at once and to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including Chittagong city Jamaat Ameer and former member of the Parliament Maulana Shamsul Islam immediately.”
