Acting Ameer urges the government to stop pre-planned political killings immediately
Friday, 06 February 2015
Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maqbul Ahmed has issued the following statement on 6th February, 2015 urging the government to stop pre-planned political killings immediately.
“The government is using the law enforcers to murder the leaders and activists of the opposition alliance selectively. The leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir are the worst victim of the government’s atrocities. Since last 5th January, the government has killed some 25 leaders and workers of the 20 party alliances. After arresting the Chhatrashibir Rajshahi University unit’s Information Secretary and talented student Shahabuddin on 5th February night, the law enforcers have murdered him at midnight. Following a similar arrest, the law enforcing agencies have murdered Shatkhira town unit Jamaat activist Shahidul Islam this dawn. The detective branch of police had arrested Chouddogram Upazila Chhatrashibir President Shahab Patwari on last 5th February afternoon and they fell down his dead body in the morgue of the Comilla Medical College Hospital today.
The law enforcers today raided into the house of party’s central Majlish-e-Shura member Principal Abdul Bari in Shatkhira. He was not in the house at that time. Subsequently, the law enforcing members have arrested his wife Jahanara and the female member of Jamaat-e-Islami Shuktara. Police also arrested Comilla South district’s Sadar thana Jamaat Ameer Master Kafil Uddin today. Police unlawfully arrested Shirajganj district’s Chhatrashibir secretary Shamim Reza. His family is in severe panic and anxiety assuming his fate as he was not produced before the court even after 24 hours of his arrest. The family members are in fear whether he is to face the unfortunate fate of extra judicial killing.
Right now, the nation is suffering from state backed terrorism. The law enforcement agencies are directing violating the law. Under these circumstances, I am urging the global forums including United Nations, the local and international human rights organizations to take stern steps against these unlawful and inhuman misdeeds.
The government becomes reckless to defend its office. Even the women are not safe under this tyrannical regime. 23 days have been passed today since the arrest of Rangpur district’s Mithapukur Upazila Jamaat activist Al Amin, his wife Beauty Begum and their neighbor Moushumi. Still, they have not been produced before the court or given back to their families. Instead of protecting the life of the citizens, the law enforcers got involved with unlawful tasks including abduction, murder, looting and vandalism. We are vehemently protesting all the inhuman and anti constitutional activities of the government. We are urging the government to stop pre-planned political killings immediately. Besides, I am calling upon the countrymen to peacefully observe all the declared programs of the 20 party alliances for restoring democracy in this country.”
