Tribunal postpones the verdict against Maulana Nizami due to his illness
Wednesday, 25 June 2014
International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) on Tuesday postponed the pronouncement of verdict in a war crimes case against Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer  Maulana Motiur Rahman Nizami due to his illness.

The tribunal has decided to keep the case waiting for verdict again as it is not logical to pronounce the judgment in absence of Nizami, said Justice Enayetur Rahim, chairman of International Crimes Tribunal-1, which was scheduled to deliver the verdict today.
Earlier in the morning, the jail authorities informed the tribunal’s registrar office through a letter that Maulana Nizami was sick, said AKM Nasiruddin Mahmud, registrar and spokesman for the international crimes tribunal.
The chairman came up with the postponement order around 11:00am after the letter was placed before the three-judge panel.
The tribunal also ordered the jail authorities to submit a full report before it on Maulana Nizami’s health condition as soon as possible.
The 71-year-old former lawmaker and minister was shifted to Dhaka Central Jail from Kashimpur Jail around 8:10pm yesterday.
The Jamaat chief was arrested on June 29, 2010, in a case filed in connection with hurting religious sentiments of the Muslims.
