Azhar’s indictment review plea rejected
Sunday, 15 December 2013
The International Crimes Tribunal-1 Sunday rejected a defence petition that sought review of indictment order against Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary General ATM Azharul Islam.
Today was set for hearing the review petition but a junior defence lawyer Syed Md Raihan Uddin, submitted a petition seeking an adjournment of the hearing for today, saying that his senior colleague Abdur Razzaq could not appear before the tribunal due to personal reasons.
This is for the fifth time that Raihan sought an adjournment of the hearing on the same ground and the tribunal had earlier allowed the adjournment for the fourth time.
Prosecutor Zead-Al-Malum opposed the adjournment plea and requested the tribunal to reject the review petition.
Jamaat leader ATM Azharul Islam was arrested on November 12 handed a six-count indictment for his alleged complicity in 1971 crimes against humanity.
