Re-arrests are unjustified and undemocratic; Acting Ameer urges government to release of all Jamaat leaders and activists immediately
Thursday, 07 November 2013

Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maqbul Ahmed has delivered a statement today (6th November, 2013) protesting and condemning the incident of keeping the Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman, party’s assistant secretary general Mia Golam Parwar, central working committee member and Sylhet city Ameer of Jamaat Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Jubayer behind the bar by showing them arrest in connection with some newly filed concocted cases and the unlawful detention of Kushtia district Jamaat Ameer and former lawmaker Abdul Wahed, Dinajpur district Jamaat Ameer Anwarul Islam and Chapai Nawabganj district Ameer Professor Nazrul Islam. The statement of the acting Ameer is as follows:

I vehemently protest and condemn the re-arrest of Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman and party’s assistant secretary General Mia Golam Parwar from the jail gate several times despite securing bail from the High Court. Besides, central working committee member and Sylhet city Ameer of Jamaat Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Jubayer has been kept behind the bar by showing them arrest in connection with some newly filed concocted cases and Kushtia district Jamaat Ameer and former lawmaker Abdul Wahed, Dinajpur district Jamaat Ameer Anwarul Islam and Chapai Nawabganj district Ameer Professor Nazrul Islam are being detained for months even after securing bail in all the cases that had been filed against them which are condemnable and unjustified. By detaining them unlawfully, the government has violated the constitution. These incidents of re-arrests have exposed the autocratic approach of the government. Beside, not releasing these national leaders, despite the bail order of the High Court, the government has disclosed their disrespect towards the rule of law. Subsequently, this government has no right to talk of democracy and rule of law.

By keeping the Jamaat leaders in this way, the people’s movement will not be subdued. The people of the country will make them free by launching mass upsurge. I am urging the government to release Jamaat’s assistant secretary general Professor Mujibur Rahman and Mia Golam Paerwar, party’s central working committee member Ehsanul Mahbub Jubayer, Kushtia district Jamaat Ameer Abdul Wahed, Dinajpur district Jamaat Ameer Anwarul Islam and Chapai Nawabganj district Ameer Professor Nazrul Islam along with all the detained leaders and activists immediately.
