In a statement issued on December 31, Professor Mia Golam Porwar, Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former MP, wished the countrymen a happy English New Year and said, "The outgoing year 2024 is a very important and memorable year in the history of Bangladesh. In July-August 2024, the people were liberated from the fascist government through the mass uprising of the students and the public. I remember with deep respect the martyrs of the mass uprising. I express my deepest condolences to the injured and wish them a speedy recovery.

Next year, Bangladesh will be developed as a happy and prosperous country by establishing democracy and human rights, and democracy will take an institutional form. We hope that the countrymen will be able to achieve the benefits of the mass uprising by establishing an accountable administration, judiciary and a government according to the expectations of the people.
