Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former Member of Parliament, Professor Mia Golam Parwar, has issued the following deep concern over the illegal abduction of 20 Bangladeshi fishermen along with 15 boats by Myanmar’s armed group.
In the statement, he said, “On 5th November afternoon, 20 Bangladeshi fishermen, along with 15 boats, were illegally abducted by Myanmar’s armed group from an area near Baidya Para, close to the confluence of the Naf River and the Bay of Bengal near Naikhyangdia. I am deeply concerned about this incident. It should be noted that on last 8th October, five Bangladeshi fishermen had been taken from the Naf River along with their boat as well. They were later returned to Bangladesh. These incidents pose a serious threat to the security of Bangladesh. Such occurrences should be stopped immediately."
He further added, "We strongly demand that the Bangladesh government take immediate and effective measures to bring back the Bangladeshi fishermen along with their boats. I also urge the government of Bangladesh to take necessary security precautions to prevent such incidents in the future."
