Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former MP Professor Mia Golam Parwar issued a statement on September 24 expressing deep concern and simultaneously condemning and protesting the latest tragic incident as army officer Lieutenant Tanzim Sarwar was killed in Dulahajra area of Cox's Bazar.
In the statement, he said, during the operation of the joint forces on Monday night, army officer Lieutenant Tanjim Sarwar Nirjon (39 ST Battalion) was killed in an attack by terrorists in Dulahajra area of Chakaria upazila in Cox's Bazar. Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the incident. It has been stated that, the joint forces surrounded a suspect's house around 12:30 pm on Monday. At this time Lieutenant Tanzim challenged two terrorists. At one point, when he tried to detain the terrorists, the terrorists stabbed him in the neck. Tanjim was immediately taken to Chakaria Christian Hospital with serious injuries. When his condition deteriorated, he was taken to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Ramu where the doctor on duty declared him dead at 4:50 am. I express deep concern and also condemn and protest this incident. At the same time, I am seeking salvation and forgiveness for the departed soul. I am also express my deepest condolences to the mournful family of Lieutenant Sarwar.
He further said that this murder was taken place when the victim was engaged in maintaining law and order and the entire incident is very painful and sad. This unexpected incident has created anxiety in the country. It has become very important to restore peace, order and tranquility in the country, particularly in the three hill tract districts. The perpetrators of vandalism and murders must be dealt with strictly.
He said further in the statement that, “I appeal to the concerned authorities to quickly arrest the killers of the patriotic army officer Tanjim Sarwar Nirjon and give them exemplary punishment. At the same time, I appeal to all the citizens of the country to support the joint forces, who have been engaged in restoring peace and order across the country.
