Secretary General refutes the confusing remarks of the foreign minister

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former member of the Parliament Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 11 August 2020 protesting a comment of the foreign minister of Bangladesh as he stated that ‘Bangladesh has a blood relation with India and economic ties with China.’

While talking to the journalists in Mujibnagar of the Meherpur district on 8 August, Bangladesh’s foreign minister Dr. A K Abdul Momen said that ‘Bangladesh has a blood relation with India and economic ties with China.’ His comment disappointed the whole nation. Bangladesh is an independent and sovereign country. Bangladesh has bilateral relationship with almost all the countries of the world. India is our neighboring country and we have friendly ties with them. Foreign Minister in his address further stared that, ‘our victory belongs to India and as such India owns our development and prosperity as well.’ The nation failed to realize the inner meaning of this statement. Actually, with such remark, foreign minister has yielded the distinctive position of Bangladesh before the Indian interest. We think Bangladesh has similar ties with India as it has with other nations.

Foreign Minister’s remark ‘Bangladesh has a blood relation with India and economic ties with China’ is not compatible with the foreign policy of Bangladesh. We hope that the foreign minister would be refrained from making such confusing remarks in future.
