School going girl killed after rape; Secretary General demands stern punishment of the killers

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 18 June 2020 protesting and condemning the barbaric incident as a school going girl namely Hiramoniwas killed after being raped in Gopinathpur area of Lakshmipursadarupazila on Friday.

“Hiramoni, Hiramoni Begum, a Class IX student of Palerhat High Schoolin Gopinathpur area of Lakshmipursadarupazilawas killed after being raped on last 11 June. While the world including our homeland is suffering from global pandemic, pathetically violence against women still continues. According to a statistic of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, in last 3 months, 480 women and children have become the victim of violence. Off the numbers, 267 are women and 213 are children. So far, 90 women and 113 kids have been raped as well.

Violence against women and children are increasing alarmingly in the country. Offenders are not being tried and prosecuted which is the main cause of such growing numbers. I am calling upon the authorities concerned to arrest and prosecute all the criminals who were involved with the murder incident of schoolgirl Hiramoni.
