Police arrests 45 Jamaat leaders and activists from a picnic spot in Dinajpur; Rafiqul Islam Khan condemns

Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan has issued the following statement on 20 December 2019 protesting and condemning the unjustified arrests of 45 Jamaat leaders and activists from a Picnic spot in Dinajpur including Jamaat’s Joipurhat district Ameer Fazlur Rahman Sayeed, district Secretary Maulana Ghulam Kibria, Panchbibi Upazila Jamaat Ameer Mustafizur Rahman and Secretary Maulana Suzaul Islam.

“Police have unjustifiably arrested 45 Jamaat leaders and activists from a Picnic spot in Dinajpur including Jamaat’s Joipurhat district Ameer Fazlur Rahman Sayeed, district Secretary Maulana Ghulam Kibria, Panchbibi Upazila Jamaat Ameer Mustafizur Rahman and Secretary Maulana Suzaul Islam. I am vehemently protesting and condemning the incident.

These 45 Jamaat leaders and activists went to the ‘Shopnopuri’ Picnic spot, situated under Nababganj upazila of the Dinajpur district just for the purpose of entertainment and recreation. It was not a political program at all. But police arrested them to harass them politically. They have no reason to detain these innocent party leaders and activists. Such a role from the police force is really regrettable.

I am urging the concerned authorities to stop harassment and to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including Joipurhat district Jamaat Ameer Fazlur Rahman Sayeed immediately.”
