25 passengers hurt as Rangpur Express derails, 7 bogies catch fire; Hamidur Rahman Azad calls for fair investigation

Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Hamidur Rahman Azad has issued the following statement on 14 November 2019 expressing concern over the train accident, that took place in Ullapara under Sirajganj district today.

“I am expressing deep concern as at least 25 passengers were injured as seven compartments of Rangpur Express caught fire after the derailment of the intercity train in Ullapara upazila of Sirajganj this afternoon.

The accident took place today when the entire nation is still mourning centering the tragic rail accident in Brahmanbaria recently. I hope that the concerned authorities will probe into the incident and ensure exemplary punishment for the responsible and liable personnel.

I am calling upon the authorities to pay due compensation to the victims and also to take due initiatives to ensure their medical treatment. I am also extending sympathy to the victims and their families.”
