Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan has issued the following statement on 29th October, 2017 protesting and condemning the unjustifiable arrest of Jamaat-e-Islami’s Chapai Nawabganj municipality unit Secretary Maulana Omar Faruq.

“Police has imprisoned Chapai Nawabganj municipality unit Secretary Maulana Omar Faruq just to harass him politically. The government has arrested members and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami at different levels as they failed to tackle Jamaat-e-Islami politically. The government has become disconnected from the general masses as they are carrying out an unbearable misrule now. They have lost the public support. In this backdrop, the government is trying to stay in power forcefully by detaining the opposition activists, particularly the activists of Jamaat-e-Islami. I am calling upon the fellow countrymen to launch mass resistance against the torture and oppression of the government.

Finally I am urging the concerned authorities to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including Chapai Nawabganj municipality unit Secretary Maulana Omar Faruq immediately.”
