Police arrests several Barisal city Jamaat members and activists; Secretary General protests

Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 6th August, 2017 protesting the unjust arrest of Barisal district Jamaat’s several party members and activists including Barisal city Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Bazlur Rahman Bachchu and Secretary Zahir Uddin Muhammad Babar.

“The government has unjustifiably arrested Barisal city Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Bazlur Rahman Bachchu and Secretary Zahir Uddin Muhammad Babar just to attain its ill political interest.

The government has arrested Jamaat members and activists unlawfully nationwide as they failed to tackle Jamaat-e-Islami politically. The government is detaining and imprisoning the innocent members and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami in order to weaken the party. Jamaat members and activists are being victimised of government’s political vengeance. Despite direct involvement and complicity of the ruling party leaders with various kinds of crimes including terrorism, murder and rape, the government is indulging them. Reversely, the government has been arresting the Jamaat men and imprisoning them for months. I am urging the countrymen to raise voice against such double standard policy of the government.

Finally, I am calling upon the concerned authorities to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including Barisal city Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Bazlur Rahman Bachchu and Secretary Zahir Uddin Muhammad Babar immediately.”
