Jamaat or Chhatrashibir has no connection with any militant groups

Hamidur Rahman Azad refutes the false comments of CTTC chief Monirul Islam

Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former member of the Parliament Hamidur Rahman Azad has issued the following statement on 30th July, 2017 protesting the baseless remarks of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit’s Chief Monirul Islam that he delivered during a press meeting in the DMP media centre on last 29th July saying that ‘Ex-activists of Islami Chhatrashibir, the Student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami are active in New JMB. Ex-Shibir workers are leading New JMB now’.

“Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit’s Chief Monirul Islam has delivered absolutely false and untrue statement about Islami Chhatrashibir, the Student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.

Without mentioning any specific name, police official Monirul Islam made a baseless comment that ‘Ex-activists of Islami Chhatrashibir, the Student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami are active in New JMB. Ex-Shibir workers are leading New JMB now’. As he failed to mention any particular name of Islami Chhatrashibir, that substantiates lack of authenticity of his remark. If he had said the truth in that briefing that he was supposed to mention the name of the Ex-Chhatrashibir workers, who are holding different positions in New JMB. I hope he will not be able to do so. In several earlier occasions, he had tried to mislead the fellow citizens of the country by making some false statements. But so far, he could not prove his claims.

No question can be raised to have any nexus between Islami Chhatrashibir and Shariful Islam Khaled, who had been arrested in connection with the murder of Rajshahi University’s Professor Dr. AFM Rezaul Karim. Such false information has been placed just to confuse the fellow citizens.

I want to assert once again that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir believes in democratic and systematic trend of politics. We sincerely hate all sorts of terrorist activities. Jamaat-e-Islami or Islami Chhatrashibir have no connection with New JMB or any other terrorist organizations.

Earlier, police officials disclosed the name of the militants who had been involved with Gulshan Holey Artisan bakery attack. Following that gruesome incident, IS telecasted the video address of two Bangladeshis from Syria’s Rakka, who are the son of pro-Awami League bureaucrat and one of the mastermind of controversial Jonotar Moncho platform, ex-Secretary Shafiur Rahman Chowdhury. In addition, ruling party leaders and their family members are being arrested repeatedly for their militant activities from various places of the country including Natore, Pabna, Ishwardi of Pabna and Kushtia. It is severe injustice to blame Jamaat-e-Islami or Islami Chhatrashibir instead of ruling party Awami League for the ongoing terrorism and militant activities.

In this backdrop, I am urging police official Monirul Islam to be refrained from delivering false and confusing statements against Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir in future.”
