Jamaat’s central executive committee expresses concern over the severe power crisis

-Professor Mujibur Rahman

A meeting of the central executive committee of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami was held with the party’s Acting Ameer and former MP Professor Mujibur Rahman in the chair. The meeting expressed deep concern over the ongoing severe load shedding and acute power crisis and adopted the following proposals:

“People’s lives are completely disrupted due to continuous load shedding and severe power crisis. Extreme hot weather and frequent load shedding made public lives shattered. A disastrous situation has been created in the power sector because of the massive corruption, looting, and irregularities. By operating quick rental power plants, the government also looted thousands of crores of money. The quick rental plants are being operated and managed by the influential persons of the ruling party. The experts opposed the concept of a quick rental power plant since the onset but the government did pay any heed to such observations.

The power shortage is continuing in Dhaka and other parts of the country. The villages are remaining out of electricity most of the time. Resultantly, many people are becoming sick. Because of the power crisis, the shortage of water has begun in many parts of the capital. Even the water pumps failed to provide water because of the power crisis.

Right now, the government cannot generate electricity as per the demand. Though the government failed to increase its capacity, however, they are hiking the price of power repeatedly. In the last 15 years, the price of electricity both at retail and bulk levels has increased more than 13 times.

Paira coal-based power plant has been declared closed on 5th June because of having adequate coals and the dollar crisis. The countrymen are keen to know, while they are paying the electricity bill regularly, but then why do the due bill of coals remain unpaid?

The central executive committee is urging the government to take effective measures to resolve the power crisis immediately.
