Central relief committee holds meeting in Sylhet

Instead of staying at home, Jamaat leaders and activists must stand by the side of flood victims

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has said, a severe catastrophe has been created in Sylhet. The Sylhet residents never witnessed such calamity before. Due to the overflow of water, the entire Sylhet is deprived of power, network, and gas supply. Shops are closed in many places. Flow from the upper stream and torrential rains have caused a disastrous situation in Sylhet and Sunamganj districts. Almost all parts of Sylhet city are submerged by water.

He further said Jamaat has allocated 50 lakh taka for the Sylhet flood victims. It will be extended gradually. Jamaat will conduct relief operations by forming a separate committee in all districts and cities. Jamaat leaders and manpower should not stay at home; rather they should come out of the house to help the victims. The affluent sections of society have to come forward as well.

Jamaat Ameer said this while addressing a meeting of the central relief committee held in Sylhet. The convenor of the committee and Jamaat’s Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum presided over the meeting. Among others, Jamaat’s central executive committee member and Dhaka south city Ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul, central executive committee member and Dhaka north city Ameer Muhammad Selim Uddin, the coordinator of the committee and Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary General Advocate Ahasanul Mahabub Zubzyer were present on the occasion. The meeting was also attended by Sylhet city Ameer Muhammad Fakhrul Islam, Sylhet North district Ameer Hafiz Anwar Hossain Khan, Sylhet south district Ameer Principal Abdul Hannan, Sylhet north organizational district’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Faizullah Bahar and Assistant Secretary Maulana Islam Uddin.
