Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Hamidur Rahman Azad has issued the following statement on 24th February, 2017 protesting against the false and politically motivated comments of the Police’s Inspector General AKM Shahidul Haque that he has made while addressing the grand gathering of Chittagong district Community Police on 23rd February.
“Inspector General of Police is a top official of the republic. The way he has made baseless comment against Jamaat-e-Islami, have disappointed all. I am vehemently protesting his untrue comment. Jamaat-e-Islami has no connection with the incidents of murdering police or burning people alive.
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami do not believe in the politics of terrorism and murder. Jamaat is not trying to lead the nation towards destruction rather the party is sincerely trying to take the nation towards progress and prosperity. The countrymen are well aware of the real terrorists and their patrons. The incumbent authoritarian government has chosen the brutal path of eliminating Jamaat-e-Islami as they failed to tackle the party politically. Police chief’s irrational and false comment would encourage the terrorists more, which will never bring peace and welfare to the nation.
The countrymen want to see police chief as an official of the republic, not as a political leader. The front organizations of the ruling Awami League including Jubo League and Chhatra League are carrying out terrorism in presence of the police force. They are killing own party men just to establish dominance. But instead of taking punitive measures against these ruling party hooligans, the government is arresting the innocent Jamaat-Shibir men and torturing them inhumanly in the name of police remand. The people want to know the move of the IGP in these regards.
The political intentional comment of the police chief created confusion among the people whether he is making such remarks just to conceal the ruling party terrorists. Under the circumstances, I am calling upon the Inspector General of Police to play fair and unbiased role for the sake of the national interest and also for establishing rule of law in the country.”
