At least 7 killed as train falls off bridge in Moulvibazar; Jamaat Ameer and Secretary General express condolences

Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Maqbul Ahmad and its Secretary General Dr. Shafiqur Rahman have jointly issued the following statement on June 24, 2019 expressing deep shock and condolence as at least 7 people were killed and more than 250 injured as a passenger train derailed on a bridge at Boromchal in Kulaura upazila in Moulvibazar district.

We are deeply saddened as at least 7 people were killed and more than 250 injured as a passenger train derailed on a bridge at Boromchal in Kulaura upazila in Moulvibazar district late last night.

The concerned authority should examine it earlier whether the Boromchal bridge was fit enough for rail transportation or not. The rail authority cannot deny their liabilities in this regard. We hope the authority will probe into the incident properly to ensure proper legal measures against the responsible personnel. We are also expecting that the authorities concerned will take effective cautionary steps to prevent such accident.

We are praying for the salvation of the deceased people and extending deep sympathies to their families. We are also praying for the quick recovery of the injured. We are calling upon the concerned authorities to pay due compensation to the victim families.
