Despite Court’s bail order, Aftab Uddin Molla’s release is being denied repeatedly; Professor Mujib condemns

Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 22 April 2019 protesting and condemning of repeated harassment of the concerned authority against Jamaat-e-Islami’s Rangpur regional team’s member, party’s central Majlish-e-Shura member and former chairman of Chirir Bandar Upazila council Mr. Aftab Uddin Molla.

“The government is not releasing detained Aftab Uddin Molla intentionally. Rather they are lodging one after one false case against him to harass him politically. I am vehemently condemning such harassment and oppressive actions of the government.

Mr. Aftab Uddin Molla was the popular chairman of Chirir Bandar Upazila. He has served his locality till last 15th April. The government becomes envious of his growing popularity and harassing him by filing false cases repeatedly. The court has granted him bail for several times, but the authority is keeping him behind the bar by implicating him with more false cases. Such a hostile attitude of the government towards a former public representative is regrettable. Such oppression and torture can never be imagined in a democratic and civilized society.

He had been arrested on 28 March while he was discharging duty as the Upazila chairman. Since then, he has secured bail for 4 times. However, the authority filed two more false cases against him. So far, he is being charged with 10 false cases. He has become the victim of the repression of the incumbent authoritarian regime. The fascist face of the government has been exposed by such brutalities.

I am calling upon the concerned authorities to stop repression and to release him immediately.”
