Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Maqbul Ahmad has issued the following statement on 28 March 2019 expressing deep shock and condolence as at least 19 people, including a Sri Lankan citizen, were killed and 70 others injured in a fire that broke out at FR Tower in Dhaka’s Banani area this afternoon.

“I am extremely mournful as at least 19 people, including a Sri Lankan citizen, were killed and 70 others injured in a fire that broke out at FR Tower in Dhaka’s Banani area this afternoon.
I hope that the government would form an investigation commission to find out the causes and also to take precautionary measures to avert such deadly accidents in future.

I am praying for the departed souls who have been killed in this accident and extending deep sympathy to their families. I am also praying for the quick recovery of the injured victims.

Finally, I am urging the concerned authorities to pay due compensation to the victim families and also to undertake substantive arrangement to ensure proper medical treatment of the injured people.
