Arrest drives and harassments continue against opposition activists; Mia Ghulam Parwar condemns

Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mia Ghulam Parwar has issued the following statement on 10 December 2018 protesting and condemning the arrest of Chandpur district Jamaat’s Secretary Maulana Billal Hossen Miazi and looting of 18 thousand posters and 3 thousand hand bills of ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ from a printing press by the Chhatra League goons in Satkhira district’s Shamnagar area.

“The fascist face of the authority and the Chhatra League goons have been exposed once again by the arrest of Chandpur district Jamaat’s Secretary Maulana Billal Hossen Miazi and incident of looting18 thousand posters and 3 thousand hand bills of ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ from a printing press from Satkhira district’s Shamnagar area. I am vehemently protesting and condemning these two incidents.

These two incidents proved once again that congenial atmosphere has not been created in the country for holding a free, fair and credible election. Rather the ruling party hooligans have initiated massive mayhem and terrorism in order to keep the opposition away from the electoral process. I am calling upon the government and the election commission to resist these terror activities with iron hands.

Finally, I am urging the concerned authorities to release all the detained opposition leaders and activists including Chandpur district Jamaat’s Secretary Maulana Billal Hossen Miazi. I am also asking the authorities to stop the Chhatra League goons who were involved with Satkhira district’s Shamnagar Upazila’s press looting incident.
