Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqul Rahman called for the unification of all people based on the Spirit of National Revolution and Solidarity Day, regardless of political affiliation, to build a just and humane Bangladesh, that is free from misrule and discrimination.
He said this while addressing a discussion meeting organized by the Dhaka North City Jamaat marking National Revolution and Solidarity Day. The event was held at the Al-Falah Auditorium in Maghbazar, Dhaka. The meeting was presided over by Jamaat’s central executive committee member and Dhaka North City Ameer Muhammad Selim Uddin, and conducted by Jamaat’s Central Working Council member and Dhaka North City Jamaat Secretary Dr. Rezaul Karim. Among others, the event was also attended by Assistant Secretary of Dhaka North City Jamaat Mahfuzur Rahman, Nazim Uddin Molla, Dr. Fakhruddin Manik, Central Majlis-e-Shura Members Hemayet Hossain, Yasin Arafat, Dr. Maulana Ahsan Habib, and Publicity and Media Secretary of Dhaka North City Jamaat Ataur Rahman Sarkar.
Dr. Shafiqul Rahman said, “November 7 is a historic and significant day for this nation. Following the independence, the ruling regime deprived us of the right to know our history. In June 1975, the Awami fascist government declared all political parties illegal and established a one-party system under the Baksal regime. Except for four state-owned newspapers, the declarations of all other media outlets were revoked, in order to silence the voice of the people. At that time, young members of parliament, Barrister Mainul Hossain and Colonel M.A.G. Osmani, protested against this step. Because of their non-cooperation, they were physically assaulted. This was the reality. In fact, by establishing Baksal, Awami League regime had buried the country’s democracy.
At that time, Jamaat Ameer paid deep tribute to all the martyrs who sacrificed their lives, since the Liberation War to those who died on August 5, 2024, and expressed sympathy for the injured and disabled.”
He further said, "Jamaat has been engaged in a long struggle to ensure the rights of the people. The life and property of the people are a sacred trust for us. We have always acted responsibly in the interest of the country and the nation. However, we are the most persecuted and oppressed political party in this country. Since independence, we have been banned twice. Yet, we have consistently practiced clean and visible politics. In fact, it was the post-independence government that initiated negative and exclusionary politics in the country.
Jamaat Ameer further stated, "On November 7, the soldiers and the people together came to the streets to free the country of misrule and also to confront imperialist conspiracies. The people who were fighting for justice in those days, wholeheartedly welcomed the patriotic revolutionaries with flower petals. The conspirators were plotting to hand the country over to foreign hands. But the heroic people foiled their conspiracy. However, the conspiracy did not end there. After their failure on November 7, they orchestrated the so-called BDR mutiny, in which 57 patriotic and skilled army officers were killed, leaving the country’s independence, sovereignty, and borders unprotected. Therefore, we must take an oath to build a new Bangladesh, using the lessons learned from November 7. He also called for the formation of a new investigation committee to probe the BDR massacre and also to facilitate the prosecution of those, who were responsible for the massacres."
