Jamaat Ameer urges to help the Cyclone Yaas affected victims in coastal areas

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 27 May 2021 urging all to help the coastal people who have been badly affected by cyclone "Yaas".

’27 Upazilas of the coastal 9 districts including Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Noakhali and Laxmipur have been massively affected by the cyclone Yaas. Thousands of houses, roads, educational institutions, markets and small shops have been submerged by the surging water due to the cyclone. Upper tides of the water bodies have swept away hectors of farm land, fishing ponds and other cultivable areas. The embankments of these coastal areas have been collapsed which increased theamount of damages massively. Already people are leading miserable lives due to pandemic situation. Moreover, this cyclone Yaas have made their lives more critical.

Cyclones, upper tides and floods are common natural phenomenon of Bangladesh. But to tackle such natural calamities, the governments were supposed to take effective measures including rehabilitation and constructing embankments. But historically people of the coastal areas had experienced negligence always. Even, the allocations which are provided to the victims are not adequate at all.

We are urging the affluent people of the societies and the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami to extend their helping hands to the cyclone affected people of the coastal areas.
