Al Jazeera reporter Shireen Abu Akleh killed by Israeli forces; Jamaat Ameer condemns

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 13th May 2022 protesting and condemning the murder of Al Jazeera’s journalist Shireen Abu Akleh in the occupied West Bank by the Israeli forces.

Israeli forces have shot dead Al Jazeera’s journalist Shireen Abu Akleh in the occupied West Bank. On 11th May, Israeli soldiers conducted a raid in Jenin city. Abu Akleh was there to cover the story and at that time, the Israeli soldiers shot at her head. By continuing such murder, Israeli forces wanted to subdue the voice of the media. This murder incident also demonstrated Israel’s brutal approach toward the Palestinians. We are shocked and saddened by this incident. We are condemning and protesting this murder.

Jamaat Ameer further said Shireen Abu Akleh was a Palestine-origin American citizen. She has been discharging her duties in West Bank with the highest sincerity and professionalism. She was a respectable journalist. Her murder incident is very pathetic and we have no word to condemn this murder. The journalists are totally unsafe in Palestine.

This murder is a clear violation of international human rights. The quarters that are continuing brutal murders and oppression against the civilian and innocent Palestinians must be brought under accountability. We are demanding a transparent fair and impartial investigation into this murder and demanding the punishment of the killers. We are extending our support to the ongoing demand for press freedom and journalists’ safety so that they can remain safe and protected while performing their professional duties.

We are extending sympathy to her mournful families and colleagues. May Allah bless her with profound bounties and bless her family so that they can hold patience. Ameen.
