On, June 16, Monday morning a three-member delegation from international human rights organizations met with the leaders of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami at the party’s central office.
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and former Member of Parliament Dr. Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, Central Executive Council’s member and Secretary of the Central Publicity and Media Department Advocate Matiur Rahman Akanda, and the Spokesperson for Jamaat-e-Islami Europe, Barrister Abu Bakar Molla were present during the meeting.
At that time, the delegation was briefed on Jamaat-e-Islami’s organizational methods, structural framework, grassroots presence, and its constructive role in the overall political context of Bangladesh. The delegation appreciated Jamaat-e-Islami after learning about these aspects. They also expressed optimism that Jamaat-e-Islami would play an effective role in improving the human rights situation in Bangladesh in the future.
Following the meeting, the delegation toured various departments of the Jamaat-e-Islami’s central office and paid a courtesy call on Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman.
The delegation included Mr. Niccolò Figà-Talamanca, Secretary General of the international human rights NGO "No Peace Without Justice"; Mr. Pascal Turlan, an international lawyer and accountability expert; and Mr. Abbas Faiz, an international human rights law expert and former director of Amnesty International.
