Acting secretary general of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maulana ATM Masum issued the following statement on May 18 strongly condemning and protesting the tragic incident of 40 Rohingya refugees being thrown into the sea from an Indian Navy ship in the Andaman Sea.

“At least 40 Rohingya refugees, including women and children, were detained from Delhi, India, taken to the Myanmar border via the Andaman Sea, were put on life jackets, and thrown into the sea from an Indian Navy ship on May 8. Such an incident is rare in the civilized history of the world. We strongly condemn and protest this inhumane incident in India. Through this incident, India has violated international law, human rights, and the UN Charter.

We strongly appeal to the peace-loving people of the world to raise their voices against such tragic behavior by India. We appeal to the Indian government to ensure that such inhumane incidents will not happen again in the future.”
