On Sunday, April 27, the European Union Ambassador to Bangladesh, Mr. Michael Miller paid a courtesy call to the Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dr. Shafiqur Rahman at the central office of the party. . The meeting was held in a sincere and cordial atmosphere.

After the meeting, Nayeb-e-Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami and former MP Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher said in a brief press briefing that, "Recently, we visited Brussels with the Ameer-e-Jamaat. We held several meetings with high-level officials of the Belgian government and the European Union over there. In these meetings, we had positive discussions on various issues including the friendly relations between the European Union and Bangladesh, and other issuee like development and progress of this region. They wanted to know our position on democracy, women's rights, minorities and our main export sector including garments sector. We tried to give them a clear idea on these issues.

Dr. Taher also said, "We have told them to send observers in the next elections." We have sought their cooperation in installing CCTV cameras in every polling station. We have also informed them about the necessity to maintain the balance of power between the President and the Prime Minister adding that the same person should not be the Prime Minister more than twice. We have told them about the recommendations of the Women's Affairs Reform Commission that licensing sex workers is a severe blow to the dignity and rights of women. They have agreed with us on these issues. They observe at least 43 percent of women are functioning in all committees of in Jamaat-e-Islami and considered this number as a positive thing.

They expressed strong hope that the existing bilateral friendly relations between the European Union and Bangladesh will be further strengthened in the future.

During the meet, Jamaat Ameer was accompanied by the organization's Nayeb-e-Ameer and former MP Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, Assistant Secretary General Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair, Central Executive Council Member and Secretary of the Central Media and Publicity Department Advocate Matiur Rahman Akanda, and the advisor to the Ameer-e-Jamaat on Foreign Affairs Professor Dr. Mahmudul Hasan.
