Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former MP, Professor Mia Golam Porwar issued the following statement on December 17, 2024 condemning and protesting the comments made by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who claimed Bangladesh’s Liberation War as India’s war.
“On December 16, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a post on social media regarding Bangladesh’s Victory Day. In this post, he claimed that Bangladesh’s Liberation War was India’s war. He referred to the historic victory of Bangladesh in 1971 as India’s victory. On Victory Day, December 16, he did not even mention the name of Bangladesh in his post. Narendra Modi’s statement is disrespectful and insulting to Bangladesh's independence, sovereignty, and Liberation War.
Through this statement, it has been proven that 53 years ago, Jamaat-e-Islami’s warning regarding India’s hegemonic ambitions was correct. Narendra Modi, through his post, has become a witness to the truth of Jamaat’s statement. We strongly condemn and protest against this statement by India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
